A small studio, and the reasons it stays small.
Forge and Fig is an engineering studio in Kuala Lumpur building software, websites and automation for businesses in Malaysia and the region.
Why the name.
Forge is the work: things made under heat and pressure, to a shape someone specified, that hold up under load afterwards.
Fig is the intent. In the older texts a fig tree is what you plant expecting to sit under it later. It is a long horizon, and a blessing rather than a transaction.
Put together they describe the trade we would like to be in: build the thing properly, then hand it over so somebody else gets the benefit of it for years. Hence the line at the top of every page. We forge it. You harvest it.

A studio that says yes to everything is a studio with no opinion about what it is good at. These are the ones we pass on, and we would rather you knew before the first call.
Work with no named decision maker
If nobody can approve a scope, the project cannot end. It can only accumulate opinions.
Rescues where the previous developer still holds the accounts
We are happy to take over a codebase. We are not able to work on a system we cannot deploy.
Fixed-price work on an undefined scope
One of us has to absorb the difference, and pretending otherwise just moves the argument to the end.
Anything requiring us to file on your behalf
Tax and regulatory submissions belong with your agent. We build the system that feeds them.
Guaranteed accuracy rates on AI features
We will agree a measure and report against it honestly. A guaranteed number would be invented.
Projects where the real request is a lower price
If the budget is the constraint, we would rather cut scope with you than quietly cut quality.

That is a choice, not an oversight. Most small studios lead with a face, and it works, because at this size you are buying a person rather than an organisation.
We would rather be checkable than familiar. The business is registered, the number is in the footer, the agreement is the same one every client signs, and the commitments above are specific enough to fail publicly. If you would like to meet the person doing the work, that is what the first call is, and there is only one person to meet.
